A large asteroid soared narrowly (by cosmic standards) past Earth on Wednesday morning. This was the closest approach by such an object in more than a decade, according to scientists at NASA.
The asteroid was first discovered 3 years ago in 2014. Radar images of asteroid 2014 JO25 were obtained in the early morning hours on Tuesday.
“We’re safe. From this one," NASA's planetary defense officer, Lindley Johnson said after the asteroid past us all by.
