Apple's Squid Emoji Mistakenly Had Its Butt On Its Face And No One Noticed

How closely do you look at emojis? Like really look at them? Usually, you just see a face or a heart and there's no need to examine it closer, but it turns out there was a glaring error on one emoji that went unnoticed for years. It's on Apple's squid emoji and it was the Monterey Bay Aquarium that finally called out the company for the mistake on their version of the tentacled creature. The aquarium wrote:

"Wasn’t sure they’d try to spin this one for ocean awareness but here we are: apple’s squid emoji is upside down."

Turns out that nose-like feature that resembles the end of a Whoopee Cushion is supposed to be the squid's siphon, which it uses to push itself forward, and also to poop. No problem there, except that like with us, that particular hole is found in the back.

A squid biologist confirmed the mistake to Gizmodo saying, "It would be like having a butt on your forehead."

Apple's squid emoji is far more detailed than any other platforms' squid. Along with a siphon, theirs features suction cups on the tentacles, shadowing and various colors on the head, and lots of other specifics. Other phones' squids are much more simple, but they also don't have an anatomical error on them:

As yet, Apple has not responded to the tweet, nor have they corrected the squid emoji.
