Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Reveal Baby Sussex's Name

The Duke & Duchess Of Sussex Pose With Their Newborn Son

Baby Sussex has a name! After taking some time to find the perfect moniker for their little one, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally shared their decision with the world. The seventh royal in line for the throne will be known as: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor!

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” Meghan and Harry announced on Instagram. “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

Shortly after Archie was born, Harry gushed over his newborn son during a quick press conference. Despite Meghan being over a week overdue by the time she went into labor, the new dad admitted he and his wife were still thinking about names. Seems like they finally figured out the perfect choice!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were under less pressure to pick an ancestral Windsor name for their little one because he's not directly in line for the throne. In the days before they made the announcement, professional oddsmakers William Tell had Spencer as the top choice. This, of course, would have been a sweet nod to Harry's late mother Princess Diana as she was known as Lady Diana Spencer before marrying Prince Charles. Other top contenders were James, Alexander, Arthur, Albert, and Philip.

It's clear from Archie's debut this morning (May 8) that his parents are absolutely smitten with him. Meghan said her first few days as a mom have been "magic." She also said her son "has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm" and that the littlest royal has just "been a dream. It’s been a special couple of days.”

Congratulations again to the happy family!
