Filmmaker CJ Wallis is working on a documentary about the late Mac Miller.
On Monday (June 3), CJ announced that his company Margrette Bird Pictures is beginning pre-production on the film about the 26-year-old rapper, who died in September from an accidental drug overdose. "So, over the next year I'm going to start collecting interviews & content to make the definitive @MacMiller documentary for his family, friends & fans," the filmmaker tweeted. "Please share & tag anyone you think we need to speak with! #birdseyeview #ripmac."
CJ, who is also the creative director for Jet Life Records, is a "Canadian writer, editor, animator, visual designer and director." He's worked with numerous musicians and rappers including Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and Ty Dolla $ign, Deadline reports.
Mac, born Malcolm James McCormick, was found dead in his San Fernando Valley home on September 7. Months later, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office released the late rapper's toxicology report, which confirmed he died from "mixed drug toxicity" — specifically fentanyl and cocaine. The amount of each drug in his system was reportedly not a lethal amount, however, the combination of each drug is what caused his death.
The "Self Care" rapper received a posthumous Grammy nomination — his first-ever — for Best Rap Album for his final album, Swimming, at this year's award show. While the project wasn't awarded, Mac was honored during the "In Memoriam" segment of the show.
