Taco Bell Recalled 2.3M Pounds of Ground Beef After 'Metal Shaving' Found

Taco Bell Menu Items, Headquarters And Restaurant Shoot

Taco Bell has recalled more than 2.3 million pounds of seasoned ground beef, affecting 21 stores in the Midwest, Southeast and Northeast after a 'metal shaving' was discovered in a menu item by a customer.

"Nothing is more important than our customers’ safety, and nothing means more to us than their trust," said Julie Masino, Taco Bell’s North America president, in a press release. "As soon as we received the first consumer complaint, we immediately acted to remove the product from the affected restaurants and proactively worked with the supplier to inform the USDA of our steps to protect our guests."

As soon as they were made aware of the issue, the fast-food chain "immediately" made the USDA aware of the issue, identifying the specific plant where the beef had been produced and shut down that distribution channels. The voluntary recall was issued on Oct. 11, affecting an estimated 2.3 million pounds of seasoned beef.

According to a release from the USDA, “There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.”

Taco Bell did not say when the beef would return to stores.

“While some Taco Bell restaurants in the eastern Midwest and Northeast regions may be experiencing a shortage of seasoned beef, we are working diligently to replenish the supply in those restaurants and encourage fans to try any of our other delicious proteins like shredded chicken or steak in the meantime," the fast-food company told Fox News. "We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause and appreciate our customers’ patience.”

There's been no reports of injuries or any other type of adverse reaction to the beef. Anyone who is suffering discomfort, is urged to contact their health-care provider.

Customers with questions or concerns about the recall are being directed to contact the company directly at 1-800-TACO-BELL.
