MALIBU (CNS) - Firefighters Thursday were working to extinguish a fire burning in about an acre of brush in the Malibu area.

The fire was reported about 1 p.m. near the 3900 block of South Topanga Canyon Boulevard, near Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The forward progression of the flames was stopped around 1:45 p.m., an LACFD spokesman said. No structures were threatened.

Crews reported they were making good progress in knocking down the fire, and a water-dropping helicopter that had been dispatched to the scene was canceled.

A section of PCH was been closed in the area as a precaution, the California Highway Patrol reported.
