A school in Maine is celebrating the 43rd anniversary of something rather unique. It is an unwrapped Twinkie that is on display.

The Twinkie has been on display at the school since a science teacher unwrapped it in 1976 as part of a lesson on food preservatives.

After 43 years the Twinkie has maintained the same size and shape. The color, however has faded to gray and the texture has turned rough.

When the teacher retired in 2004 he handed down the Twinkie to the school's dean of students.
