Hollywood's Historic TCL Chinese Theatre Is Coming To San Diego!
A new entertainment complex is coming to the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter in just a few months. Construction workers are putting the finishing touches on Theatre Box, from the owners of the famed TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
Located at Fifth Avenue & G Street, the Theatre Box complex will occupy a city block in the Gaslamp and will feature movie theaters and venues for food, drinks & fun. The lobby of the complex will feature movie star handprints and footprints, much like the ones we see by the legendary original Chinese Theatre location in Hollywood. Expect the complex to open later this Fall.
Then later in the year in this winter, San Diego native Nick Cannon will bring his Nick Cannon's Wild 'N Out Sports Bar & Arcade to the complex. It'll feature a state-of-the-art arcade, Wild ‘N Out show memorabilia, TVs for sports-watching, bar food, and monthly DJ appearances from Nick and other celebrity guests.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the complex will also include:
- Theatre Box: Eight screens on the second floor with 815 state-of-the-art seats, down from the original 15 screens with 2,906 seats. Seven luxury auditoriums would include food and drink service, ordered by iPads embedded at each seat — and, according to Samaha, cashmere blankets available to keep warm. Two of the theaters might be combined to create downtown’s first Imax theater.
- A Sugar Factory with French bistro-style service; the Chocolate Lounge serving chocolate fondue, movie-star-themed cocktails; a gelato stand; and a candy store; and virtual reality video games .
- A Landshark Bar & Grill from Jimmy Buffett.
- A 5,000-square-foot rooftop bar.
