The Statue Of Liberty's Original Torch Finds A New Home

The Statue Of Liberty's Original Torch Finds A New Home

The Statue of Liberty is every sentimental for me. I lived & worked in the NYC area for 12 years. I saw her nearly everyday. I was working in NYC when September 11th happened & she took on an even deeper sense of meaning for us. But even though I feel so familiar with Lady Liberty, I was surprised to learn that the torch she has now isn't her original torch.

According to Time, the original torch was taken down on July 4, 1984. It has rested in the entrance way to the Statue of Liberty since then. You see, all those years I lived in NYC, I never went inside the Statue of Liberty. I only ever saw her from the outside. But in October of 2018, a team of engineers disassembled the 133-year-old, 3,600-pound torch and moved it to it's new location, the nearby Statue of Liberty Museum.

Look for the museum to open in May of 2019 and watch the video of the original torch being disassembled & moved in the Time video below...
