Billie Joe Armstrong Of Green Day Talks "No Fun Mondays" And More!

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day is keeping himself busy and keeping fans entertained in quarantine with his cover series called "No Fun Mondays." Every week, he releases a new cover song while quarantined at home until "we're let out into the world." He kicked the series off with Tommy James & the Shondells / Tiffany's song "I Think We're Alone Now." This cover was such a huge hit, he followed it up with other covers like Blondie's "Dreaming", Kim Wilde's "Kids In America", The Bangles' "Manic Monday", Adam Schlesinger's "That Thing You Do" and many more! Billie Joe called into Valentine in the Morning and Val gave him a bunch of cover suggestions.

"I would have to go with something like "Do You Believe In Love" by Huey Lewis. I'm thinking maybe something like Corey Hart "Sunglasses at Night" or "Never Surrender" that's a great song, that's definitely a possibility. I could do Bryan Adams "Summer of '69" or I gotta get my drum skills up and I could do like Rush or Genesis. You know how to pick them man. "More Than Words" by Extreme oh wow wow that sounds like "Time of Your Life" a little bit. I remember being pretty nervous about putting out that song [Time of Your Life] out just because everything has been about the trio you know me, Mike, and Tre, and just playing aggressive punk rock music. Then I was like well I had that song and I kind of felt like I was pretty out on broadway, I remember the first time I ever played it live, we had a crazy show, we went off stage and then I came out for an encore and right before I went out I chugged a beer just so I could get the nerve to go out there...For Monday, I gotta get to it right now. After this conversation, I gotta start working on something, it's all spontaneous. Maybe "Fox On The Run", maybe Survivor, maybe Corey Hart, Genesis."

Green Day was supposed to go on tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer this summer for the HELLA MEGA TOUR, but the pandemic forced them to reschedule the tour until next summer. Billie Joe has been in this industry for a long time and you might think that getting a number 1 would feel kind of the same, but he still gets excited. He compares it to the scene in the movie "That Thing You Do" when they're listening on their transistor radios and he tries to think of it like that way every single time.

"It should feel like that every time even though it's not exactly the same, but it's really cool and it's one of my favorite movie moments ever. I mean the older I get, the more grateful I become because it's just like i've been doing this for 30 freakin years so it's like you just gotta 'alright things are going well it's all good ya know,'"

Billie Joe wants to do more acting and the one thing he really wants to do is a soap opera.

"I would love to do a soap opera, "Young and the Restless" or "Poor and the Useless" any one I think it would be really fun. My sisters to watch them and tape them on a VHS tape and when they would get home from school they could watch them. It was just always something that was really campy and kind of fun. I need to have a Luke and Laura moment. Todays Luke and Laura, yeah I just need a Laura."
