Some people join the student newspaper because it will look good on their college applications, while others are genuinely interested in journalism and its power to make things right.
For these teens in Kansas, they learned how powerful they can be.
The students at Pittsburg High School in Kansas recently learned they were getting a new principal, Amy Robertson, who was hired on March 6th.
The staff at the student newspaper, the Booster Redux, decided to do some research on their new principal and started with her resume - obviously this is something the school administrators didn't do.
They googled the school where Robertson claimed to get her master's and doctorate degrees, Corllins University, which DOESN'T EXIST!
It's an unaccredited "diploma mill," where you can buy fake degrees and certificates.
When the newspaper ran their findings, Robertson resigned four days later.
THIS IS SO CRAZY!
