The original Disneyland map that was hand-drawn by Walt Disney is about to go up for auction.
Walt Disney and a friend, Herb Ryman, created this map over one rushed weekend in September 1953 as part of a frantic effort to secure funding to build Disneyland.
This map is the single most significant piece of Disneyland memorabilia to come to auction to date and it has not been seen by the public in over 60 years!
Grenade Curran has been the owner of the map all of these years.
He was a Disney employee at the time when he saw the map in Walt's office and asked if he could keep it.
Grenade has kept it safe all this time, unknowingly preserving a significant part of Disney history.
Now, he is ready for that map to be given to someone who will really cherish it.
This month there will be an exhibition open to the public to view the map and then in June it will be auctioned off at Van Eaton Galleries in Sherman Oaks.
They estimate the item will sell between $750,000 - $1,000,000!!
It will be the most valuable artifact ever offered at an auction.
