Following a week that saw a number of acts bow out of their scheduled appearances, organizers have pulled the plug on the 2020 SXSW festival over coronavirus concerns.

Friday's announcement came shortly after the mayor of Austin declared a disaster because of the coronavirus epidemic. "It’s a really important event to our city in a lot of ways, tied to who we are in this city," Mayor Steve Adler says about the cancelled fest, which was scheduled to take place March 13th through the 22nd. "I look forward to the next iteration of SXSW when it comes back for us."

Over the past week, such acts as Ozzy Osbourne, Beastie Boys and Nine Inch Nails have bailed on the 2020 SXSW, citing concerns over the coronavirus outbreak. Netflix, Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, TikTok, Mashable and Intel have also pulled out.
