Businesses big and small have been impacted nationwide due to the coronavirus pandemic. We've talked about how many stores plan on closing and the next one on the list is JCPenney. The clothing store chain is permanently closing 154 stores across the country this summer as part of its bankruptcy plan. JCPenney filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May 15 when the pandemic hit making it difficult for them to overcome their debt. The retail store says they expect store closing sale to last around three months and they plan on announcing additional closures in the upcoming weeks. According to Chief executive officer of JCPenney,
“While closing stores is always an extremely difficult decision, our store optimization strategy is vital to ensuring we emerge from both Chapter 11 and the COVID-19 pandemic as a stronger retailer with greater financial flexibility to allow us to continue serving our loyal customers for decades to come.”
